HAMILTON, NJ – A crash on South Olden Avenue left one person dead and another transported to the hospital on Thursday, Hamilton Police Division Chief Kenneth DeBoskey announced.
According to a statement, Namtho Trinh, 67, Hamilton Township was struck by a 2011 Ford Escape while attempting to cross South Olden Avenue near Riley Avenue around 4:01 p.m. He was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Ford Escape, 57-year-old Craig Gomez, also from Hamilton Township, was traveling westbound on South Olden Avenue when the incident occurred. According to the Hamilton Police Division, Trinh entered the roadway in an attempt to cross and was struck by the vehicle’s front passenger side.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Trinh may have entered the roadway inattentively. Police also noted that sun glare for westbound traffic may have reduced Gomez’s visibility at the time of the incident. Excessive speed is not believed to have contributed to the crash.
