Cameron Carter-Vickers believes that with the significant VAR calls at Tynecastle, the referees lost sight of the situation.

The Celtics defender, though, is adamant that the Hoops team won’t follow suit in the championship game. The questionable red card given to Yang and the Hearts penalty call infuriated Carter-Vickers as the champions missed their opportunity to take the top spot in the Premiership back on Sunday. Four days later, Celtic’s hopes of taking advantage of Rangers’ error against Motherwell were ruined by referee Don Robertson and video assistant referee John Beaton, according to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

Carter-Vickers acknowledged that such calls may cost teams leagues when asked if they could. But that cannot be the centre of our attention. All we need to do is concentrate on our own performance. We’ll be fine as long as we keep becoming better and improving. It was clearly challenging. The fact that we weren’t able to achieve the desired outcome was frustrating. Overall though, I believe we should be pleased with the performance we put up.

Even when we were down to ten guys, we still created a lot of opportunities. Thus, yes, I believe there are many advantages that we may draw from it. It’s quite obvious what we need to do for the remainder of the season, win or lose. We’ll simply concentrate on it.

While attempting to contain his annoyance, Carter-Vickers acknowledged he didn’t see why VAR needed to be engaged at Tynecastle. Yang was scheduled for a high boot, but before being upgraded to a red, he was called over to the monitor.

With Tomoki Iwata’s back to the ball as it was heading down off his arm, the handball call against him appeared even more contentious. Carter-Vickers is in favour of the referee using his own discretion as opposed to using a microscope on the touchline.

“You can argue whether or not the first one was a red card, but in my opinion, the referee witnessed it in real time,” he stated. With unobstructed vision, he issues a yellow card. So when he goes to the monitor, is that for him to adjust it?

“I’m not sure that’s appropriate. Images can appear much worse when they are slowed down, as is common knowledge. Since the referee had a clear view of the situation the first time, I would prefer him to stick with his previous ruling.

“I doubt that any player on the pitch was aware of who had handballed it.” Most people on the pitch, I believe, believed it to be Ali Johnston.

Of course it wasn’t; Tomo was the one. Your arms automatically raise when you jump for the ball.

Furthermore, a lot of pushing and shoving occurs, which has the potential to shift your body and give the impression that it is moving in the direction of the ball even though you never intended to. I fail to see why a referee needs to go to a monitor at all if he has seen it clearly the first time.

That’s fair enough if he hasn’t seen it, has only seen it through bodies, or hasn’t had a decent angle. However, he had a clear picture of the situation the first time around and issued Yang a yellow card. I simply don’t get it. Not only in that scenario, but in any scenario.I don’t think a referee needs to give it another look once he’s seen it plainly.

Carter-Vickers is aware that the Celts squandered the chance following the Gers’ loss to Motherwell. However, he is confident that the nine league games left in the season will have even more surprises.

US captain Carter-Vickers declared: “Absolutely. Additionally, we must play each other twice. There is obviously nothing done yet. For us, the key is to put our attention on ourselves, our controllable circumstances, and our efforts to become the best versions of ourselves.

This season, Celtic has experienced player shortages, and their captain Callum McGregor will miss Sunday’s Scottish Cup match against Livi as well as future games. Carter-Vickers acknowledged that the team’s top players will need to take the initiative and lead the way, but he is confident in the team’s ability to succeed.

Even if I don’t always use the term, I always like to think of myself as a leader. We control and govern things collectively.

“It goes without saying that I have opinions. I consider myself to be rather adept at adding context to both favourable and unfavourable circumstances. I kind of envision my position on the squad in that way. The characters of other players are distinct. We have a nice mix of characters, in my opinion.

We played fairly well in the first half of the game on Sunday, I believe, with 11 men. Tomo has been playing pretty well in his last few games, Paulo Bernardo has played a lot and is ready to go, and Matty O’Riley has undoubtedly been one of our finest players all season. Therefore, I believe we have the players to handle it.

After Yang’s disappointing red card, Carter-Vickers will also throw a large arm around him and Adam Idah, who missed from the spot before the drama began on Sunday. “Obviously, when you get sent off, it affects the game in that way,” he stated. You will experience some sadness. However, the majority of the boys quickly warmed up to him, and I believe that he is now feeling fine.

He shares our complete faith, as do all of our athletes. Anyone can be affected by a single penalty miss.
