Hull FC complete deadline day signing with Wigan Warriors prop set for arrival

Hull FC have made another loan signing.

Wigan Warriors forward Sam Eseh has completed a loan move to Hull FC, where he will play for the remainder of the year. With 40 career matches under his belt, the 21-year-old will provide the Black and Whites another option in the forward pack as their numbers have been dropping recently because of yet another serious injury crisis.

Before Leon Ruan arrived and participated in Friday’s team run, Simon Grix announced his side was down to just 19 senior members, with 13 players already ruled out of Saturday’s match against St Helens. Herman Ese’ese is likewise questionable and has an unidentified knock.

Furthermore, Ruan might face the Saints by going directly into the Hull side, but Eseh should be available to debut against Leigh Leopards next weekend. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, he will offer Hull some size and a bit of experience to go with their rising youth, of which several will be fielded once again against the Saints and beyond.

Agreeing the deal on rugby league’s transfer deadline day this Friday, the prop will be the second loan player to arrive from Wigan, with Tiaki Chan also in the squad this week. New 2025 recruit Ed Chamberlain has also arrived early from Leigh on a deal until the end of the season.

Born in Leeds, Eseh made his senior rugby league debut for Featherstone Rovers back in 2022. He also played for Barrow Raiders in the Championship that year. He then featured for Wakefield Trinity in 2023, before signing for Wigan on a two-year deal with a club option of a third ahead of 2024.

The front-rower is yet to make his Warriors debut and has featured at both Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos on loan this season. Hull will be his third loan move of the year.
