Richie Myler has confirmed that interim head coach Simon Grix has the full backing of Hull FC as the club ‘take stock’ after missing out on . The Black and Whites made the current Salford Red Devils their top target after parting ways with Tony Smith, with Rowley deciding to stay put after talks and negotiations took place.

That has seen Hull reassess their options. Rowley would have been the quick appointment that club owner Adam Pearson spoke of. However, the process to find a new head coach may now be a longer one.

Grix will lead the team until the end of the season and is putting in a strong argument for a permanent position, and Hull is pleased with how the players are reacting to him. He is a candidate, and Myler has confirmed that the team is not in a “hurry” to make an appointment while they search for the ideal candidate and consider ways to bolster the present roster.

“We made a big play for Paul Rowley and we were pretty confident that he was going to be the right fit for both of us,” Myler said in an interview with the BBC. We would discuss about his playing style and the identity he would provide us on the pitch, as well as our needs.

“Unfortunately, due to his personal circumstances, the trip, and other factors, that didn’t work out. We are now in the process of evaluating what we need and doing a little stock taking. Whether it’s our offensive style or our tenacity and resolve, we need to have an identity on the pitch. Someone who can lead is needed in that position.

“It’s obvious that the team on the pitch needs additional supplies and adjustments. That team starts to look better if we can use that money to sign a few additional players. We’ll go ahead and acquire a coach if that’s what it takes to improve. It is a matter of determining what will be in the club’s best interests moving ahead. There won’t be an instant solution for this. It’s just obviously not.”

Myler, who was named Hull’s Director of Rugby earlier this month, is optimistic that the team will select the best candidate for head coach at the appropriate moment. Gareth Ellis has returned to the club in the interim to assist with performance before they travel into

Myler responded, “I don’t think so at all,” when asked if Hull is a difficult sell. According to the numerous coaches I’ve spoken with, I believe it’s a top-four team; it’s enormous.

“Gaz Ellis provides us that identity and what it means to play for Hull, so he’s a terrific addition to the team. He’s both inhaled and walked it. He is aware of its significance. He’s been yelling and screaming at the TV, as many others undoubtedly have as well. I believe the fans would support us if we can connect with them, demonstrate our concern, and demonstrate our desire to make things right.”
