Hull KR goes bold transfer pursuit

In preparation for the 2025 season, the Robins are currently going through the hiring process.

Although there is always some degree of uncertainty following its publication, the RFL’s annual off-contract list leak offers additional insights into how clubs may approach recruitment.

The same is true for Hull KR, about whom a great deal more information is now available ahead of the 2025 campaign. Prior to the upcoming season, Rovers’ hiring is already taking shape. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has already been revealed as a new signing, but Tom Davies looks set to stay at Craven Park next season. In addition, Jack Brown and Jack Broadbent were brought in early as part of agreements with Hull FC and Castleford Tigers.

Since the Robins have already completed a number of deals, it is not anticipated that they will be very active in 2025. The off-contract list does, however, seem to have confirmed that Hull KR will be looking to add a new hooker for the upcoming season.

Four players have not received terms offers from Rovers for the upcoming season, as confirmed by the off-contract list. Among them, two are hookers. Matt Parcell and Reiss Butterworth will not be with the team in 2019–20 as the Robins have elected not to exercise the latter’s one-year option in his contract.

The loss of Parcell is not shocking. Waerea-Hargreaves’ arrival forced one of Rovers’ foreign players to depart, and as he was the only one without a contract at season’s end, it seemed inevitable.

However, it appears that Hull KR will need a hooker come season-opening given Butterworth’s exit. Even though Jez Litten is making a name for himself as a hooker who can play significant minutes, Rovers will want to have enough depth and cover in place for the upcoming campaign.

Until another player from the club’s quota moves on, that recruit will need to be a domestic player at this point. That does provide the club with few choices.

After that, Rovers might still be looking to bolster their roster. Wakefield Trinity is expected to sign Matty Storton, and the Huddersfield Giants are rumoured to be the destination of George King. Rovers are currently slated to be a middle down on what they currently have with Yusuf Ayidn also leaving, and since the club was willing to consider adding another forward to their roster during the current campaign, it appears likely that they will want to add another prop for the following campaign.
