In order to further their investigation into a report of an attack in Jarrow, Northumbria Police are requesting that witnesses come forward.
A man is reported to have suffered a potentially fatal injury in the event.
An ambulance service reported to the police at approximately 10.45 p.m. on Saturday that a man in his 40s needed medical attention at the Lakeside Inn at Fellgate Estate, Jarrow, due to a significant head injury.
It was reported that during the assault, the victim was punched by another male.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and remains in a critical condition.
