It appears that L’Jarius Sneed’s tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs is coming to an end, based on the writing on the wall. The Chiefs have allegedly allowed Sneed to look for a trade, following reports yesterday that both parties were willing to consider a trade if they couldn’t come to an agreement on a long-term contract extension.

Ian Rapoport has now reported that Sneed is free to speak with other teams and assess his value. This comes after James Palmer of NFL Network received information on Wednesday morning that the organisation was finishing up first conversations with both Sneed and Chris Jones’ representation.

Although it appears more likely to use the funds from a possible extension on other players, like Jones, Kansas City is expected to apply the franchise tag to Sneed.

Chiefs Authorise L’Jarius Sneed to Pursue Trade.

There are probably a lot of suitors for Sneed in the NFL. He just turned 27 years old, and he just finished a career year in which he proved he was among the league’s finest cornerbacks. Considering that he was only selected in the fourth round of the draft, his desire for a hefty salary is understandable.

Sign-and-trade deals have happened before, and this one is comparable to the historic deal that sent Tyreek Hill to Miami. The Chiefs then used their extra cap room to sign Jones to a new contract, and history might be repeating itself in 2024.

It sounds like Brett Veach doesn’t want to commit too much future money to a position where he has scouted and developed players so successfully in the past when other core players like Nick Bolton, Trent McDuffie, Creed Humphrey, and others are set to receive new contracts soon.

Sneed will be remembered with fondness as the captain of one of the best defences Kansas City has ever seen and as an important part in the dynasty, if we have truly witnessed his final game as a Chief.
