Work to rebuild a bridge parapet on the A77 at Whatriggs Road Overbridge, two miles south of Kilmarnock, will begin this weekend.

From Sunday, April 21 until Tuesday, May 28, the road over the A77 will be completely closed for construction on Whatriggs Road. The road is closed to ensure the safe dismantling of the concrete barrier. A signposted diversion will be in effect.

The work will help the cars that travel this road every day by improving the quality and safety of the parapet structure and avoiding the need for future expensive maintenance.

Traffic will be diverted westbound on the A76 to the Bellfield Interchange, where it will take the third exit from the roundabout to Queens Drive and turn left into the B7072 (Hurlford Road). Traffic will then turn left on New Street, continue till Whatriggs Road, and then turn right at the roundabout onto Merrick Road. Traffic will then be able to turn left into Whatriggs Road, where the diversion ends.

There will also be alternate nightly lane closures on the A77’s north and southbound carriageways from Wednesday, April 24 to Tuesday, April 30.

Emergency vehicles will have access to the area during the construction period. All initiatives are weather-dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions are unfavourable.
