Two guys have been detained and charged in relation to the grow operation, according to confirmation from the police.

Following the discovery of a huge cannabis farm valued at £150,000 in Kilmarnock town centre yesterday, two men have been accused.

Around four in the morning on Thursday, police descended onto a vacant building on King Street after noticing suspicious activity nearby.
As they began their investigation into the narcotics haul, police closed off the major shopping area throughout morning on Thursday.

A water rescue team was contacted, however they were stood down, according to Scottish Fire and Rescue, who also confirmed they were present.

A few hours later, forensic officers were observed at the scene, coming in through a side door with clear bags and black holdalls.

Although investigations are still underway, the overall worth of the cultivation is still unknown, but according to the police, the estimated value of the plants collected is as high as £150,000.

Today is the men’s scheduled appearance before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court. We are going to submit a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

Seven males have been arrested and charged in connection with the recovery of a substantial cannabis plantation within a disused building in King Street, Kilmarnock’, a Police Scotland spokesperson said.

“On Thursday, March 7, 2024, at around 4 a.m., officers were alerted to a report of suspicious behaviour in the vicinity. That is when they made the discovery.

“Enquiries are ongoing to confirm the total value of the recovery however the plants found within the building have an estimated street value of up to £150,000.

“The seven men are due to appear before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday, 8 March, 2024, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 7.35am on Thursday, March 7 to assist partners at King Street, Kilmarnock.
