Leeds Rhinos make a new loan on Championship

Halifax Panthers have bolstered their squad with the loan addition of Leeds Rhinos talent Corey Johnson. Rugby League Live understands Johnson will head to The Shay, despite current being on loan at local rivals, Bradford Bulls.

Johnson, 23, joined the Odsal club on a season-long loan deal earlier in the year, but Fax are now set to take on a similar arrangement to add quality to their squad after a difficult start to the season.

The Rhinos and the Panthers are in a dual-registration agreement this year, with the likes of Riley Lumb, Kieran Hudson and Jack Smith already playing for Liam Finn’s side. But Johnson will add another spine option for Fax at a time when hooker Adam O’Brien remains unavailable through injury.

As for Halifax, they have had a disappointing start to the season and currently find themselves twelfth on the Championship ladder with just two wins from seven matches. They are currently on a four-game losing streak and face fellow strugglers York Knights next, who are currently in the relegation zone after enduring a tough start to the season of their own.

As for Bradford, the return to action of Tom Holmes has bolstered their options and that has also seen George Flanagan leave the club, making a loan move to local rivals, Keighley Cougars.

Able to play halfback or hooker, Johnson is off-contract at the end of the season and regular game time will give him an option to catch the eye at Headingley or beyond heading into next season.
