The back-rower Jasper Wiese has announced his departure from the Leicester Tigers, having left the Premiership team at the end of the 2023–2024 season.

Once a little-known loose forward from the Cheetahs, Wiese moved to the Tigers and went on to become one of the top number eights in the league.

After a brilliant start to his career at Leicester, the industrious back-rower—who is well-known for his heavy hitting on both sides of the ball—got his first call-up to the Springboks squad in 2021 and made his Test debut against Georgia.

The 28-year-old, who won the British and Irish Lions Series and the Rugby World Cup, is leaving Leicester, but his amazing numbers only serve to highlight how dominant he was while he was a member of the Tigers.

Since joining the Tigers, Wiese has carried the ball 896 times; no player in the Premiership has carried the ball more than him, according to Oval Insights.

He was not shown a red card in his second season, but he did get three yellow cards again. He went his entire third season without a single card.

In his fourth and final season, he was shown one yellow card and one red, the latter coming in his last game for the club.

Perhaps Wiese’s most memorable performance for Leicester was in the 2022 Premiership final against Saracens, where he scored a try in a man of the match shift to defeat the Londoners 15-12 as the Tigers clinched their first league title in nine years.

He was also a standout for the side who reached the Challenge Cup final in 2021, losing by a point to Montpellier.
