Jez George Reveals Contract Latest on Midfield Duo

City’s director of football recently spoke to BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Michael Hortin in a feature long special talking about the 2023/24 season and the transfer window coming up. During the interview, Jez provided updates on a range of topics, including Ethan Erhahon, Lasse Sorensen as well as the status of the out of contract players that are in negotiations.

Firstly, Jez explained the situation with Mandroiu. The Irishman could be on his way out of the Imps after two seasons at Sincil Bank. Mandroiu has made 65 appearances for City, scoring 15 times.

“Danny is looking at his options, and we’re looking at our options. We’re calm and relaxed about the situation and we know if Danny finds the right club and the right offer, he’ll leave Lincoln, if we find the right player who wants to come to us, we’ll sign that player.

“We’ll look at what that might look like if neither of those things happen in a timeframe that Danny as a player and us as a football team think is the best option is for us to stay together.”

Mandroiu is at the high end of City’s earnings, according to Jez, so getting him to agree to a pay increase would be challenging. The fact that Michael Skubala’s team lost to Pompey in the season finale and will now play League One football could prove to be decisive should he receive offers from other teams.

Danny understands he will have to find another place to make more money and he also has goals to play at a higher level because he was a player at the top of our pay scale.

After learning about a clause in Danny’s Shamrock Rovers contract that was well below his market worth, we signed him.

Jez proceeded to discuss Bishop’s contract status and disclosed that the team is currently in talks with the former Ipswich player. Bishop has made 111 appearances for the Imps and, under Skubala, had his greatest campaign in red and white the previous year. Despite being known for his propensity for injuries, Bishop played in 33 League One games and frequently finished the whole 90 minutes.

Teddy is a fantastic football player when he’s at his best, but we haven’t had the chance to watch him play as much as we’d want or as much as he’d like. We’ve seen Teddy at his best ever since Chris Cohen and Michael Skubala entered the picture.

“We’re conversing and negotiating.”
