Joe Taylor was happy with the Imps’ response to surrendering an early goal, which put them in a strong position for next weekend’s final game against Portsmouth.

The striker’s spectacular solo performance, along with a barnstorming finish from fellow forward Freddie Draper, helped City secure a critical three points.

Taylor stated, “After going 1-0 down, we responded very well. It took us a little while to get started in the game, but once we did, we settled in nicely and did our thing.

“We have put ourselves in the best possible situation. We’re all simply looking forward to the Portsmouth game now.”

Taylor praised his strike partner Draper after the 19-year-old volleyed the winner

home in the second-half to send Imps fans into delirium at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium.

He added: “Freddie was brilliant. We had a chat and he said we’ll just forget about the first 20 minutes and focus on the rest of the game.

“He does so well because, for his age, he gets pounded up a lot in games, and he does an excellent job of staying in the game.

“I was so happy when he got that goal because he thoroughly deserved it.”

Taylor, however, brought the Imps level with his eleventh goal for the club, a stunning move from his own half that ended with the loanee finding the top corner with an excellent finish.

“We’ve done brilliantly to clear the ball initially and thankfully it fell to me,” he went on to say.

“I got a touch in front of the man, and then I picked the ball up inside my own half, performed what I did, and gaps just kept opening up.

It’s always nice to hit ten goals. It’s credit to the boys and the work we put in everyday on the training pitch and I’m just the lucky one at the top of the pitch who puts it in the back of the net.”
