According to a rumor, Liverpool and Manchester City want Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich this summer.
One of Europe’s best midfielders, the 28-year-old has won eight Bundesliga championships and the 2019/20 Champions League.
Kimmich’s Munich contract expires this summer, and he hasn’t agreed to an extension.
This year may be the last chance for the reigning German champions to sell one of their best players or risk losing him for free in 18 months.
Sport Bild columnist Christian Falk claims Liverpool and City are ‘interested’ in Kimmich and monitoring his status ahead of a summer move.
According to him, Liverpool has a gap in midfield due to injuries and the departure of Jordan Henderson. Jurgen Klopp recognizes the importance of Kimmich.Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has Bundesliga links. Klopp is currently pursuing Kimmich.”
Falk subsequently claimed that Paris Saint-Germain are another European powerhouse interested in Kimmich.
Liverpool under FSG and Klopp have traditionally signed younger, cheaper players, but Thiago’s 2020 transfer from Bayern was an exception.
The 29-year-old was bought for £20m and handed a four-year contract, making him one of Liverpool’s top earners.
Recently, the Reds have been connected to Kimmich and Munich colleague Leroy Sane. Another player with an uncertain future is the former Manchester City winger, whose contract expires in 2025.
Interestingly, Liverpool and City have also been linked to Porto’s €70m (£60m) release clause deep-lying midfielder Alan Varela.
