Daniel Sturridge, a former Liverpool player, has been expressing his opinions during Euro 2024. He has singled out two players for his former club to look at.
Two teenage stars from Euro 2024 have captured Daniel Sturridge’s attention, and Liverpool should heed the transfer advice of their former striker.
With the departure of Jurgen Klopp, the Reds are starting a new chapter under Arne Slot. Along with Richard Hughes, who recently joined from Bournemouth as sporting director, Michael Edwards has also returned to the FSG setup.
They will have to work together to make sure the team is prepared for future success. Although Klopp cautioned his successor not to overlook the youthful talent already present at the team, there are still positions where one or two additions could be wise.
One of those areas is the forward line. With five excellent options, it appears to have some of the strongest depth in the squad, but Slot and Hughes need to be aware of the age distribution.
Primarily, Mohamed Salah is currently 32 years old and has one year remaining on his deal. Hughes is going to sit down and try to work out a renewal, but even if he can, Liverpool really needs to start considering their succession plan.
However, even Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are now 27 years old, which is much older than the average age at which Liverpool signs players. Finding the next generation of talent is necessary, and Nico Williams has been identified by Sturridge as “doing bits.”
That’s an accurate evaluation of the Athletic Club winger who caused Italy havoc in their most recent European match. He is undoubtedly a talent for the future at the age of 21, but he has a good deal of elite experience already.
Williams has been linked to Liverpool, but a number of other teams are also rumored to be interested. This new chapter at Anfield would have the ideal beginning if the Reds could force their way to the front of the line.
Alright, very nearly flawless. The real cherry on top would be if Liverpool could sign the other player Sturridge selected, but that seems unlikely.
Sturridge described Lamine Yamal as “top class” on X. “As wingers for Spain, these two guys are unusual. Quickness, dexterity, and clarity! With these two, Spain has a bright future.”
Yamal’s season at Barcelona has been exceptional. He plays as if he has been at the top level for years, which is astounding considering he is only 16 years old.
Presumably, Barcelona would do everything in its power to keep him. But with financial constraints always threatening to force a big sale, it’s worth keeping an eye on the situation at Nou Camp.
Liverpool would therefore need to keep an eye on the teenager rather than rush into signing him. However, as Sturridge noted, he already possesses every trait of a “top class” person: he is highly progressive and engaged outside of the relationship.
In all likelihood, Williams is the one to keep an eye on this summer. However, as Liverpool searches for the next wave of exceptional players, it ought to take note of both of Sturridge’s recommendations.
