Just two weeks after referee chief Howard Webb admitted a mistake in the same game earlier this season, the man in charge has been appointed again this weekend.

Liverpool were denied a stonewall penalty at home to Arsenal last month when Gunners captain Martin Odegaard was clearly seen handling the ball in the penalty area.

The game ended 1-1, but home fans were upset that their team was not given the opportunity to win at Anfield.

David Coote, who was on VAR duty that evening, will take over again at the Emirates as the two sides clash on Sunday afternoon.

It was he who failed to signal that a penalty kick should have been awarded, with Arsenal defender William Saliba subsequently conceding that his team was fortunate to avoid punishment.

Adding insult to injury, PGMOL chief Webb stated earlier this month that Coote and his colleagues failed to “reach the right outcome.”

Coote has never been a popular person with Liverpool supporters, having “forgot” to check for a Jordan Pickford red card after his tackle terminated Virgil van Dijk’s season in 2020.

Jordan Henderson’s last-gasp winner was controversially ruled out for offside in the game, costing Liverpool two crucial points and derby victory.

Anthony Taylor will referee Liverpool’s game against Arsenal, something Jurgen Klopp will not be pleased to witness

Taylor has already clashed with the Reds manager, and the official failed to issue Joelinton his first of two yellow cards at Anfield earlier this month for a challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai.

Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn will man the lines at the Emirates, with Craig Pawson serving as fourth official.

Tim Wood will help Coote from the VAR booth, which will undoubtedly attract a lot of attention on Sunday!
