Louth road closed following serious traffic accident

Due to a traffic accident that occurred earlier this morning, the R166 at Annagassan, County Louth is closed and there are detours in place.
At around nine this morning, emergency personnel, including a coast guard helicopter, arrived at the location of the collision.

It happened on the R166 in Annagassan at about 8:50 a.m.

A man in his 60s who was operating one of the cars was declared deceased on the spot.

A postmortem is scheduled to take place in the mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where his body has been transported.

The woman in her 40s who was operating the second automobile was taken to the Mater Hospital in Dublin, where her medical condition is deemed serious.

The road is still blocked as forensics examine it, and inquiries are still underway.

Any witnesses to this collision are being urged to come forward by the Gardaí.

Anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the vicinity at the time is especially of interest to them.
