Man 60s dies after two car collision in Louth

Following a two-car collision in Louth on Sunday morning, a man in his 60s passed away.

Gardaí were alerted to an automobile crash on the R166 near Annagassan in Dunleer at approximately 8.50am.

The man in his 60s who was operating the first vehicle was declared deceased on the spot.

He represents the 103rd fatality on Irish roads in 2024.

His body was taken from the site to the hospital in Drogheda, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

The woman in her 40s who was operating the second vehicle was transported by air to the Mater Hospital, where she is undergoing medical attention for severe wounds.

The road remains closed at this time, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

A statement said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
