Following a road incident in Louth on Sunday, a woman in her 40s was taken to the hospital and a man in his 60s died.
The R166 at Annagassan, Dunleer, has been partially closed by the Gardaí due to a two-vehicle collision that happened at approximately 8.50 on Sunday morning.
At the scene, the individual who was operating one of the cars was declared dead.
The second car’s driver, a woman, needed major injuries treated, so she was evacuated to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
“Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 8.50am this morning Sunday, July 14, 2024 in Dunleer, Co. Louth,” an An Garda Síochána spokeswoman said in a statement to JOE on Sunday afternoon.
Two cars were involved in the collision, which happened at Annagassan, Dunleer, County Louth on the R166.
The man in his 60s who was operating the first vehicle was declared dead at the spot.
His body has been removed from the scene to the Mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. A post mortem will take place in due course.
“The driver of the second car, a female aged in her 40s, was airlifted from the scene to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where she is receiving treatment for her serious injuries.
“The road remains closed this at this time with an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators currently under way. Local diversions remain in place.
“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Road users who were travelling in the vicinity during the collision and possess camera footage, including dash cam footage, are kindly requested to provide Gardaí with this evidence.
