On Monday, July 15, at Wigan, a Volvo caught fire along the side of the road, injuring a father and a child with burns.

Around 12.30 p.m., police, paramedics, and fire departments hurried to the scene of the spectacular fire on Atherton Road in the Wigan neighbourhood of Hindley. Two people who were inside the car at the time, a father and a child, were hurt and sent to the hospital.

Horrified bystanders watched in horror as the Volvo XC40 mild hybrid petrol automobile burst into flames at the side of the road. There is still no word on what started the fire.

The North West Ambulance Service reported that a man and a kid were among the injured, while Greater Manchester Police confirmed that two people were hospitalised for burn injuries during the event.

Volvo acknowledged that a car was involved in a fire, said it has started an inquiry to find out why, and said the family concerned is receiving “offered support” in a statement to the Manchester Evening News.

“Volvo Car UK is aware of a vehicle fire that occurred on Monday, July 15, involving a Volvo XC40 mild hybrid petrol,” a spokesman for the automaker stated. Treatment is being provided for the injuries that the driver and passengers have incurred.

Volvo Cars places a high premium on safety, and we are closely monitoring this occurrence. In order to find out what caused the occurrence, we have opened an investigation. We are unable to provide more commentary until this investigation is finished. In order to provide our support while the investigation is ongoing, we have been in contact with the concerned family.”

“Emergency services are responding to a vehicle fire on Atherton Road in Hindley this afternoon (Monday, July 15),” a GMP spokesperson stated at the scene. Two people were burned and brought to the hospital after their automobile caught fire.
