On the basis of reduced responsibility, Cameron Leckey, 33, entered a guilty plea to manslaughter even though he denied killing Mohammed Ashraful Choudhury, 26.
Mr Choudhury was stabbed at the supported living complex on Biscot Road in January last year. He was taken to hospital but died later that day.
Leckey was seen on camera advancing towards the victim while brandishing a big knife before slashing him in the chest.
Leckey, of Biscot Road, Luton, was given a Section 41 Restriction Order and was ordered to be held in a secure mental health institution under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act at Luton Crown Court today, May 3.
According to a statement from his family, “Ashraful’s ordeal on January 11th was far worse than the last 14 months of hardship for everyone who knew and loved him.”
Our family is lacking something, and there is a void in our hearts that can never be filled.
“We never stop thinking about him and being hurt by what happened, but it’s a price we will always have to pay for the privilege of loving him.”
“We are committed to preventing dangerous and aggressive people from being on the streets in order to safeguard our community.
“This hospital order with restrictions will ensure that Leckey doesn’t become a threat to others in the future and will allow him to receive the necessary treatment.”
