A double decker bus and a car collided in , resulting in one fatality and five injuries. Police reported that the driver, a 32-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries while three other passengers in the Tesla and the bus driver were treated for minor injuries.
In response to the incident, two air ambulances worked alongside three other ambulances, a Hazardous Area Response Team, and law enforcement.
The deceased man was from the Newcastle region, according to the police. The force said that Teesside is home to the Tesla driver.
At 17:25 BST, the route was once again open.
Police are requesting that anyone with dashcam footage or information regarding the collision get in touch with them.
