The mother of a youngster who was fatally stabbed in Luton told her experience during a BBC Radio 1 youth outreach programme.
Azaan “AJ” Kaleem, the 18-year-old son of Roseann Taylor, was stabbed in Luton in 2018. She participated in a BBC Radio 1 panel on trauma recovery and self-defense at the University of Bedfordshire.

Roseann is employed by the Violence and Exploitation Reduction Unit (VERU), an organisation that tries to keep kids and teenagers out of the criminal justice system. “It’s the struggle that builds you,” she remarked at the occasion.

The panel’s hosts, Lauren Layfield and Shanequa Paris of Radio 1’s Life Hacks, were joined by Debra Knight of NINE RED Presents and Kelsie Holdstock of Luton Sexual Health as guest speakers.

“The conversations were extraordinarily brave, perceptive, and inspiring as each panellist talked about personal experience and their attempts to make a difference to their communities and young people,” the force tweeted.

Teens jailed for life after stabbing man to death in Luton

After being found guilty of the murder of a man who was fatally stabbed in Luton, two adolescents were sentenced to life in prison.
Umer Choudhury, 18, and a 17-year-old youngster who cannot be identified due to legal reasons were sentenced on Friday, May 17, for the murder of Omar Khan, 38.

In September of last year, Mr Khan was fatally stabbed next to a queue of stores in Sundon Park. After the incident, a second victim suffered injuries that would change her life.

Choudhury, of Tulip Close, Luton, was given a life sentence for the murder charge and will have to spend at least eighteen years in jail.

In addition, he received concurrent sentences of two years and nine months for narcotics crimes and six and a half years for causing grievous bodily damage.

 

For the crime of murder, the 17-year-old received a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years in prison.

In addition, he received concurrent sentences of seven and a half years for grievous bodily harm and two years for narcotics crimes.
