Manchester United could be missing up to four players for Sunday’s Premier League match against West Ham United at Old Trafford.
Erik Ten Hag’s team, coming off a dramatic 4-3 win at Molineux on Thursday, knows that a victory over the Hammers might bring them within four points of fourth-place Tottenham Hotspur. However, it might be a difficult afternoon for Ten Hag, who will be missing a number of regular United first-team players as the club’s injury troubles worsen.
As expected, Anthony Martial will miss United’s next Premier League match as he recovers from groin surgery last month.
At this point, no schedule has been established for when the Frenchman could return to action at Old Trafford, and with his contract expiring in the summer, it is unclear whether he will ever play for the Reds again.
Ten Hag provided an update on his condition last month, saying: “Anthony has completed successful surgery to address a groin complaint and will be out of action for about ten weeks while he rehabilitates.”
Meanwhile, Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia, both hampered by injuries this season, have taken significant steps toward recovery in recent weeks by working on the grass at Carrington.
However, given the extended layoffs both players have had, Ten Hag is likely to pace them back into action, with neither set to face West Ham this weekend. Aaron Wan Bissika is also likely to miss out.
United could benefit from a fitness boost this weekend, with Sofyan Amrabat and Victor Lindelof set to return at Old Trafford.
Amrabat, a United loanee, has not played since December’s stalemate at Anfield owing to injury and Africa Cup of Nations participation with Morocco, but Ten Hag stated the midfielder will train on Saturday and may be involved.
In addition to Amrabat, United could welcome back Lindelof, who has been out since December following groin surgery.
