Next Man United Manager: Jose Mourinho Returns As Manchester United Coach, Shocking Fans.

Jose Mourinho has been linked with a surprising comeback to Manchester United five years after being fired in 2018.

After Roma fired him this month, Mourinho is hoping to return to football.

As to the Daily Mail, Mourinho is “keen” to lead United again. Given how his first term ended, a friend of Mourinho told the publication that he has “unfinished business” at the club.

Thus, the former Chelsea manager has “made it his mission” to coach United again if given the chance.

It appears unlikely to get done soon. Erik ten Hag is in his second season of a three-year deal, and supporters are optimistic that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS contingent will help him succeed.

In 2016, Mourinho replaced Louis van Gaal as United’s third permanent manager after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

He helped United win the Carabao Cup and Europa League in his debut season by attracting Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba.

United improved in 2017/18 to finish second behind Manchester City after a poor sixth Place Premier League finish, a step back on Van Gaal. It was United’s greatest finish since Ferguson, matched only by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020/21, and the only occasion in the past 10 seasons that United were at 80 points.

The first half of the next season ended Mourinho’s tenure abruptly. The United leadership failed to capitalize on 2017/18 by signing just Fred, an unknown Diogo Dalot, and back-up goalkeeper Lee Grant, which showed in his demeanor throughout pre-season in 2018.

Before United’s October 3-2 triumph over Newcastle, he was reportedly on the verge. Less than two months later, a 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield ended a streak of one win in six league games.
