It might be an understatement to say that Kyle Walker matured into his captaincy for Manchester City during the 2023–2024 season.

Walker joined the Blues in 2017, and even though he has been a leader on the team before then, the extra pressure of carrying the Treble winners’ armband gave his game and demeanour a new depth.

To put it briefly, he enjoyed being captain and developed into an even more admirable person who is essential to our defence.

Walker, who is 34 years old, may be at the peak of his athleticism and fitness, which is remarkable for one of the fittest players in English football.

And in an absolutely unparalleled move, his speed seemed to have gone up over the course of his lengthy career!

Walker’s quick pace gives Pep Guardiola the freedom to use his defenders as extra attackers and midfielders, knowing that Walker will pursue any long-ball counterattacks.

Walker’s ability to run gives the Blues a distinct insurance policy, but his speed is only one of his many strengths, of course.

Walker is a winger’s worst nightmare due to his exceptional physicality; he can outmuscle and outpace most wide players in the Premier League and Europe.

In his seventh season as a City player, he made 47 appearances, which is his highest total since the 2018–19 campaign. His 32 Premier League games is also his highest total in five years.

Walker is essential to City’s build-up play as well, constantly offering a release point down the right. Our attacks benefit from his short, neat passes, and he occasionally produces some of the league’s best and most accurate cross-field passes (he scored 78 goals in the Premier League alone in 2023–24).

Walker would win the Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup in 2023–2024, but he will believe there was much more that could have been.

The FA Community Shield and FA Cup are two trophies that the Blues will feel escaped from them, and the Champions League loss to Real Madrid will hurt for a while because City was statistically superior to the eventual winners of the competition over two legs.

Three was a fantastic effort from a club that had just finished as the second team in English history to complete a men’s treble, and the manner the Blues pursued Liverpool and Arsenal in the title fight was amazing. It could have easily been five or even six.

Of course, Walker led from the front the entire way.

Walker was a very different kind of captain from the more reserved Ilkay Gundogan. He was Manchester City’s captain wonderful in 2023–2024 and set an excellent example for the team when things went tough.

He’s the kind of player you want in the trenches with you during tough times, as the term goes.

“Once [Kyle] goes to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, his concentration and intensity is there every single day,” Sky Sports analyst Gary Neville recently stated in a concise manner. The player you see is at a different level, despite the extremely high expectations.

“When the ball is on his side, against a Mbappe or a Vinicius Junior, I have never been concerned about him.” The issue consistently arose when the ball was at the back post on the opposing side.

“You truly must be fully engaged. He has made significant progress in that area of his game. It’s clear that he has extraordinary leadership.

Over the course of the previous season, our captain played 4,083 minutes across all competitions, contributing five assists while, unsurprisingly for Kyle, failing to score with an average of roughly one goal every 50 games.

It’s remarkable that a player with his speed and strength only picked just two yellow cards during the season.

England manager Gareth Southgate has also acknowledged Kyle’s leadership for the European Championships, naming him as Harry Kane’s vice captain, a role he will undoubtedly treasure in his 14 years with the team.

According to his speeches.

Can we not perform five consecutively? Many of us will proudly represent our nation in the Euros or Copa América in the near future.

“After that, I hope we have a little vacation because you need to psychologically and physically rejuvenate.

“However, I can guarantee that even though it might take us a few days to clear our heads after returning for preseason, as soon as the first Premier League game is scheduled, we’ll be right back in action, attempting to defend our title.

               Pep to Walker

As a football player, I would argue that Kyle possesses an unmatched genetic quality and a distinct physicality.

The personality comes next. People listen to him when he speaks with his teammates, and I believe that he is now developing into a more mature player both on and off the pitch.
