Stags were promoted last week and will play their final game against Barrow on Saturday, hoping to finish as League Two runners-up.

However, Clough is already looking ahead and plans to sign out-of-contract players this week.

“We are just starting negotiations this week, which is another advantage of getting promotion done early,” he went on to say.
“Simon (Clough) will be speaking with agents and so on, hoping to snag one or two. “The process is just getting started.”

Regarding recruitment, he stated: “It’s about striking a balance. Most of the players will have the opportunity to observe how they perform in League One.

“We’re not the type of club that believes in letting go of 12 players and bringing in 12 more.

“Having the nucleus we have is fantastic, so if we can add six or seven extremely talented players, that will be enough.

“There will be departures – just the natural fall-off with a few people out of contract and all.

“A few may receive greater offers or incentives to play more frequently, which will be beneficial to them. We’ll sit down and talk with everyone next week to evaluate where we stand.”
