Police officers are providing support to the family of Nigel Osler, who was killed at the age of 61.

Following the death of a 61-year-old motorbike rider in a collision with a lorry at a major Mansfield crossroads, a man has appeared in court. On July 12, 2023, just after 4 a.m., emergency personnel were summoned to the A617/A60 intersection.

Derbyshire resident Nigel Osler passed away at a hospital later that same day after suffering severe injuries. According to the police, his family is still receiving assistance from officers with specialised training. On Thursday, May 23, 45-year-old Matthew Wright of Leeson Avenue, Charnock Richard, Chorley, made an appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.

Wright was given unconditional bail after being accused with causing death by hazardous driving. He is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 20. “Since this tragic incident, we have been working hard to understand what happened while continuing to support Mr. Osler’s family at this very difficult time,” stated Detective Inspector Kate Savage of the serious collision investigation unit.

“A man has now been charged as a result of our investigation and is now going through the court process.” Bellamy Road, Larch Farm, and Lichfield Lane were among the nearby roads that were closed for several hours following the collision.

The family of Mr. Osler had earlier released a statement in which they said: “Nigel was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.” He had genuinely terrible injuries that could have been fatal. Because of his extensive driving expertise and passion for motorcycles, he placed a high value on safety.

Ironically, he was riding his bike to work to begin his shift as an HGV driver. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has sent encouraging words of support during this extremely trying period for all of us.

“If anything good can come from this, please be more aware on the roads to prevent horrific tragedies like this from happening to others.”
