While Wrexham seems to be looking for a striker this summer, Phil Parkinson can cross off one possible target from his list.

Parkinson is aware that he needs reinforcements now that Wrexham is back in League One.

It’s one thing to move from the National League to League Two, but to return to League One competition after that?

That is a significant increase in a brief period of time, and Wrexham needs fresh players to establish themselves in League One.

With a few possible signings for Wrexham already being connected, the rumour mill is already in full swing.

No doubt Parkinson and company will have a long list of prospects in mind, but for the time being forget about the guy that was connected in January.

Wrexham-linked Lee Gregory joins Mansfield Town

Wrexham wanted to add another striker in January with Parkinson eyeing another goal threat.

Ultimately, Jack Marriott entered from Fleetwood Town, although there were other targets involved.

According to reports, Wrexham was considering a bid to capture Sheffield Wednesday’s experienced forward Lee Gregory.

Prior to Wednesday, the 35-year-old attacker had scored 26 goals in his first two seasons in League One.

As first-team opportunities in the Championship were scarce, Wrexham considered signing Gregory.

The former Millwall player was released by Wednesday this summer, but he never made it to Wrexham.

Gregory has joined a new squad that has been promoted from League Two to League One, thus he won’t be joining Wrexham.

Gregory’s one-year contract with Mansfield Town has been confirmed.

Along with Wrexham, the Stags received automatic promotion, and they aim to do better during League One’s duration.

Gregory, a former striker for Mansfield, is back at Field Mill as he gets closer to turning 36.

Parkinson and colleagues may consider looking elsewhere now that promotion has been assured, even though Wrexham may have considered a January move.

Two strikers on Parkinson’s radar

Parkinson has seriously valued experience throughout his time as Wrexham boss and whilst Gregory won’t be joining, another veteran forward could come in.

Northern Ireland international Josh Magennis is understood to be on Wrexham’s wish list for the summer transfer window.

The veteran front man would offer an experienced presence in attack with Wrexham possibly looking in his direction in case Steven Fletcher moves on.

Magennis has been released by Wigan Athletic and can join on a free transfer this summer, just like Stephen Humphrys.

Wrexham are also looking at Humphrys but he is a different profile; younger, a little more versatile and more of a technical player than a target man.

Humphrys was also on the radar in January, but much will depend on whether Fletcher signs his new deal at the STōK Cae Ras.
