While looking for a man who has gone missing from Masterton, police have discovered a body burned to death
The 56-year-old Ben Fox was last seen on Wednesday morning at his Masterton residence.
According to earlier police reports, his car was eventually discovered on Mangatarere Valley Road close to the Mangatarere Valley walking track.
Police said they could not yet confirm the body was that of Fox, but they did disclose on Saturday that one had been discovered during their hunt for him.
A police spokeswoman stated, “We would like to recognise the efforts of the volunteers and LandSAR [search and rescue] who contributed the search.
The spokesman also expressed gratitude to the community members who volunteered their time to assist with the search and stated that the police are supporting the man’s family.
The coroner has been notified about the deceased.
