Middlesbrough recruited in the Australian market in the summer transfer window last summer.
Last season, Michael Carrick had to find a replacement for Chuba Akpom, who scored 28 goals, after he was sent to Ajax.
In an attempt to bolster their offensive line, Boro added three forwards: Sam Silvera, Morgan Rogers, and Emmanuel Latte Lath.
Latte Lath, who cost £4.2 million to sign from Atalanta in Serie A, has scored seven goals, which is a good total.
The 20-year-old Rogers, who joined from Manchester City, performed better than expected and left the team in January, reportedly paying £15 million to join Aston Villa.
While Silvera, who transferred from Australian team Central Coast Mariners to the club, has showed glimmers of his undeveloped talent, Carrick thinks the “dangerous” 23-year-old has a promising future.
When Silvera signed on last summer, many anticipated that the wide player would be gradually introduced to English football.
That hasn’t exactly worked out that way, though, as he has made 35 appearances in all competitions and is a vital member of Carrick’s team.
Given that this is his rookie season, the left winger with a jet-heeled style has scored six goals and provided three assists.
“I’m excited by Sammy,” said Carrick, expressing his enthusiasm for the talented wide winger. His visit in the summer was a significant step. The level of intensity in this league is significantly different from what he is accustomed to. But he’s handled it really nicely.
“He is a really talented and dangerous player. He has so far just hinted at that. He ought should since he now wants more football. Seeing what he can do before the season ends excites me much. He appears to find a way every time.
He has potential; he is dangerous, astute, and aware of the objective. He’s in the midst of a significant learning season and is constantly becoming better.
He’ll own up to that. This season, adaptation was a major aspect for him, and I believe he’s making some really positive progress. I can’t wait to see what he can accomplish for the remainder of this season and beyond.
It’s obvious that Silvera has a lot of raw skill, and with Carrick’s guidance, he may develop into one of the division’s top wingers.
His statistics show that he is already well on his way to realising that goal, which is good news for Middlesbrough’s chances of getting promoted.
According to FBref, the Australian international is in the top 6% of positional peers on the continent for shots per ninety minutes.
In addition, he is among the top 9% for non-penalty xG and the top 13% for progressive carries, demonstrating his potential menace to the Riverside team.
Silvera may end up becoming a talisman for Boro and has a bright future ahead of him.
