Last Saturday, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers drew 0-0, which could have been the end of their dreams of finishing in the top six at the end of the season.
Not only did they lose to a failing team, but they also suffered the injury of one of their best players just before the Championship run-in, which made things worse.
Star forward Forss has only scored five goals in his last 12 games since his long injury layoff ended in January. However, he was replaced due to an injury after just 19 minutes of play against Blackburn Rovers.
In spite of this, he has joined Finland’s national team for their impending Euro 2024 play-off, though the Finnish FA says he will likely need more testing.
When the Teessiders get back to action on Good Friday away at Southampton, they’ll have to bide their time and hope for some positive news.
Middlesbrough need him back
This season, Middlesbrough has struggled with injuries. Their greatest players have been out at the same time, and as a result, their starting eleven has been erratic, which has greatly impacted their inconsistent performance.
Throughout the season, Forss has been a huge loss for Boro, and his return to fitness has demonstrated this. The Fin has been a major factor in their recent form surge, so they will be closely watching his recuperation over the coming weeks before the Championship resumes.
Although Isaiah Jones has also been out, he has recently returned to the bench. They do have a ready-made alternative on the right side waiting in the wings in case Forss needs to miss any games.
