The Boro recognition and surprise omission in Championship award nominations

MIDDLESBROUGH striker Emmanuel Latte Lath has been recognised for his blistering recent form with a nomination for the Championship’s Player of the Month award for April.

The Ivorian forward was unstoppable last month, accounting for half of Boro’s 14 goals in April with seven goals in six games.

He scored twice in the victory over Swansea, was on target in the draws against Hull and Ipswich, scored twice against Leeds, and ended his run with a spectacular goal in the 4-1 victory over Cardiff the previous game.

Latte Lath will face Che Adams, who scored six goals in six games for Southampton last month; Fabio Carvalho, a Hull City player on a Liverpool loan; Haydon Roberts, a young defender for Bristol City, who impressed as the Robins allowed just two goals in six games.

Before the winner is revealed on Friday morning, the nominations will be considered by the judging panel, which includes Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies, EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch, and EFL expert Don Goodman from Sky Sports.

Latte Lath, who joined Boro in the summer after leaving Atalanta, has had an incredibly positive first season. Only eight players in the Championship have scored more goals in the league than Lath.

His total is even more remarkable given that he was out for over two months at the beginning of the season due to injury. He has scored fifteen goals in the league and two more in the Carabao Cup.

Though it’s a little unexpected given Boro’s recent performance, head coach Michael Carrick isn’t up for the manager award, even though Latte Lath was rightfully nominated for Player of the Month.

In addition to winning three of their six Championship games last month, Boro earned significant points at Ipswich and Hull. Their lone setback in April came from a 4-3 loss at Leeds.

However, Carrick has been passed over in favour of Neil Harris, the manager of Millwall, Enzo Maresca of Leicester, Danny Rohl, the head coach of Sheffield Wednesday, and Liam Rosenior of Hull.

After losing three games in a row to begin April, Millwall recovered to win four in a row and guarantee their safety. Leicester won five of their six games last month despite suffering two losses as well, taking home the Championship title with a.

Rohl has worked wonders at Wednesday since his October appointment and the Owls are on the brink of safety after picking up 11 points from six games last month.

Hull, meanwhile, bounced back from their defeat at Leeds at the start of April with a six-game unbeaten run. But the Tigers might still come up short in their bid to reach the top six. They need to win at Plymouth on Saturday and hope West Brom lose to Preston.
