As things stand, Middlesbrough appears to be out of the play-off race and may have to settle for one more season in the second division. However, despite their fluctuations, there have undoubtedly been exceptional players who have the potential to succeed in the top division.

After losing points at home to Blackburn Rovers over the weekend, Middlesbrough is currently seven points outside of the top six in the table.

They have had a bit of a mixed year, with some huge wins and outstanding performances interspersed with equally bad afternoons against the worst teams in the standings.

There have been several outstanding performances by individuals, some of whom are probably going to play in the Premier League in the future, despite their inconsistent play as a team. Here are three individuals that have the potential to jump.

Hayden Hackney

Hayden Hackney is arguably the easiest person to include on this list. On his finest days, the 21-year-old is among the best central midfielders in the Championship, and at such a young age, he probably still has a lot to offer.

Premier League teams also believe he is capable of making the transition. The likes of West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all been connected and might put Boro’s resolve to the test with a bid.

Rav van den Berg

Rav van den Berg is another player who has been connected to a move to the Premier League in recent times. The Dutchman has established himself as one of Middlesbrough’s most capable and all-around defenders at the young age of 19.

The adolescent is being pursued by Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham United. Considering his skill and potential, it’s hardly surprising. He is undoubtedly someone to keep an eye on, and it appears that he will play at the highest level for years to come.

Riley McGree

Riley McGree has been a standout player for the Teessiders over the last two seasons, and Middlesbrough supporters will probably agree. He is a versatile player who can provide goals and assists as well as play a variety of positions.

McGree could succeed at the highest level even though his ceiling isn’t as great as that of the previously stated pair. Boro will be hoping that clubs from above don’t approach, but they shouldn’t be shocked if they do.
