Millwall’s head coach, Neil Harris, has spoken about the need for more centre-forward alternatives next season.

Michael Obafemi is set to return to Burnley at the end of the season. The Republic of Ireland international was an unused substitute in today’s 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle.

Kevin Nisbet, a summer addition, and Tom Bradshaw, who triggered a contract extension, have both been sidelined this season with injuries.

Millwall are also poised to lose two more loanees, Arsenal’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Hull’s Ryan Longman, after next weekend’s Championship final against Swansea City.

Harris has stated that each member of his squad will begin pre-season with a clean slate and will need to impress once more if they want to be included.

“Back in at the end of June and the players are on the start line – they start again,” said Harris.

“They accomplished in 12 games for me. But what about season-long success? That will be debatable. It would be subjective to the man sitting in the pub with his friends and a lady.

“We begin pre-season by ensuring that the squad we recruit is balanced, with both left-footed left-backs and right-footed right-backs. To ensure that we have a balanced group of midfield players who can pass the ball, run forward, and score goals.

“To ensure we have the appropriate number of nines at the top end of the pitch. Have we at this moment? No. So that has to be modified.

“We need to make sure we obtain the correct type of wide player. The squad was selected this year to play wing-backs, so I’ve had to fumble through – and I say that with the best respect for the set of players who have performed admirably, regardless of where they played. That includes Dunc, Longy, and George, in particular. Romain and Brooke came off the bench at various times. They’ve performed excellently, but we need Millwall wide players.”
