Football Insider has been informed by sources that Charlton Athletic and Millwall defender Alex Mitchell have reached an agreement to sign.
As the 22-year-old approaches an exit from The Den, Charlton has had a bid accepted by the Championship club for his services.
After spent the previous season on loan at Lincoln City, Mitchell is now scheduled to finalise his transfer to the League One team.
The centre back will be Charlton’s third summer acquisition after Luke Berry and Will Mannion signed contracts earlier.
Mitchell joined Millwall’s academy in 2018, and he has been a member of the team for the last six years. However, despite making just one senior appearance for the team, the defender hasn’t been able to push his way into the first team picture at The Den.
In the past few years, Mitchell has accumulated experience through loan stints at Bromley, Leyton Orient, St Johnstone, and Lincon.
After being listed in the starting lineup for 39 of his 41 games in the previous season, his temporary move to Lincoln proved to be effective.
The Lincolnshire team, who won ten of their final 15 games, almost missed out on a play-off spot. Mitchell started every one of those games.
As they seek to bolster their defensive options for the upcoming campaign, Charlton has finally reached an agreement to bring Mitchell to The Valley.
Football Insider revealed on June 17 that the south London club had agreed to sign a second player, and the center-back is expected to become that player very soon.
