At MK Dons, only two new pros were inspired by being released by rival academies.

Charlie Stirland and Albert Wood both experienced the heartbreak of being released early in their careers by Watford and Middlesbrough, respectively.
However, after making an impression in Stadium MK’s youth tiers, both players have received contracts to join Mike Williamson’s squad for the upcoming season.

After Middlesbrough released me, I’ve worked really hard, Stirland stated. After everything I’ve been through, my family and I are feeling extremely fantastic.

It feels incredible, and it fulfils every child’s desire. It’s a true honour. My goal is to compete for a spot in the starting lineup. Everyone wants to be involved, so I want to strive to get a starting position and maybe win a few cups.

In addition, Wood said, “I’ve enjoyed it as well as put in a lot of hard work and sacrifice. My coaches and family have helped me get here.” Drive and determination won’t get you to the top if you don’t enjoy it.

Having seen players come through the Dons academy, such as Sam Nombe, David Kasumu and England international Dele Alli, Wood said he would love to follow in their footsteps, adding: “I’ve seen what’s come through the academy before, and hopefully I’ll be the next one to do it too. “I’m excited – my goal next year is to try and put on into the first-team, establish myself as a regular in the squad. I hope to impress in pre-season to help me achieve that.”
