Even by the norms of MK Dons, the remarks have generated a great deal of controversy.
This week, MK Dons’ recent audacious remarks have received a lot of attention online, even from League Two’s current pacesetters.
Following his team’s 3-1 victory against Morecambe on Saturday, Scott Lindsey asserted that MK Dons were the league’s largest club. On Tuesday, following the team’s 2-1 victory over Accrington Stanley, Joe Tomlinson reiterated his claim that Dons might be the largest team in the bottom two divisions.
Social media is already furious with Dons for just existing, but this week’s remarks have just fuelled the flames, drawing support from supporters of practically every fourth-tier team.
League toppers Port Vale are one of them. After 13 games, the Valiants are currently two points ahead of the trailing pack and nine points ahead of Dons. They won 1-0 at Stadium less than two weeks ago.
When Port Vale learnt of Dons’ remarks, they retaliated by posting a photo of striker Ruari Paton slyly glaring at the cameras.
In response, Port Vale’s X administrator wrote, “The rest of League Two like…”
It is not until mid-March of the following year that the Dons travel to Burslem to play Port Vale at Vale Park.
