Before joining Dons, the defender played for Crewe Alexandra for almost 20 years. After 17 years, Luke Offord said goodbye to Crewe Alexandra with a heartfelt social media message.

The 24-year-old began playing for the Alex when he was seven years old, accruing 170 appearances at Gresty Road before taking over as captain in February 2022.

However, he thought it was time to move on and signed a contract with rival League Two team MK Dons after declining a deal to stay in south Cheshire.

“I wanted to use this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for having me over the past 17 years,” he wrote. “Being the captain now, having joined the club at the age of seven, has been an incredible honour that I will never forget.”

Like you, I am devastated by the way the season concluded since the players, the staff, and you fans alike deserved to celebrate the play-off final.

“I want to wish the best of luck for the future to everyone at the club. Last but not least, I would want to thank the incredible Crewe Alex supporters for their unwavering support during my tenure at the team. I’m grateful.
