At the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, the hosts took an early lead thanks to an own goal by Cheick Diabate, and the Bantams were behind after just five minutes.
Bradford needed 83 minutes to draw even but Jack Shepherd’s goal in the 88th minute brought the score back to par.
The Bantams manager has explained why he decided against making the changes that fans may have been hoping for—Alexander to cut and change during the break.
We obviously had the worst possible start, but since we’re trying to develop this character, I didn’t want to make three or four changes at halftime,” he remarked. “We didn’t play well defence in the first half, but we played much better and with tremendous character in the second half.
In the second half, he did eventually make two substitutions: Tyler Smith and Vadaine Oliver were sent on in place of Jamie Walker and Calum Kavanagh.
This season, early promise has given way to frustration, but Alexander thought he noticed a big improvement after the restart against Morecambe.
“We were dominant after the first five minutes of the second half and certainly deserved an equaliser,” he remarked. “I think there were two halves to the game, and the second half was much more like us.”
