Morecambe manager Ged Brannan said that the club’s ongoing off-field troubles had a bad impact on his players’ performance last weekend against Stockport County.

The English Football League imposed a three-point deduction on the Shrimps 48 hours before the trip to Stockport, putting an end to their lingering playoff ambitions.

That punishment caused them to tumble down the League Two standings, a decision Brannan confessed had affected him and his team hard following their 2-0 loss at Edgeley Park.

He went on to say: “It’s been a horrendous week to be honest for us all and it definitely had an effect on everyone.”There has been so much going on that it will undoubtedly damage the lads.

“It’s been extremely difficult for the players and staff because everyone had worked so hard to get us to where we were, and the points deduction was obviously very disappointing.”

“It hurt the lads; you saw they were disheartened in the first half and played for pride second half.”

The Shrimps are now preparing for their final home game of the season, against relegation-threatened Forest Green Rovers, on Saturday.

Morecambe’s home record has been dismal, with only three wins in 14 games under Brannan.

Nonetheless, the manager hopes to close the season on a strong note for the Mazuma Mobile Stadium fans.

He stated, “We have two games remaining, and we will give it our best, playing for the club, for pride, and for our fans, who have been fantastic.

“We want as many people as possible to join us on Saturday.

“We are not going to down tools; it is not in our makeup.

“We’ll go into the last two games and give it our best shot.”

In other news, the Shrimps were overlooked for two awards at the EFL Awards ceremony in London on Sunday night.

Farrend Rawson had already been named League Two’s EFL Player in the Community, and the Veterans Project was selected the division’s EFL Community Project of the Season.

However, Will Vaulks of Sheffield Wednesday won the overall Player in the Community award, while Bristol City received the Community Project of the Season.
