After hearing that the owner of the Shrimps is in talks with four possible purchasers, Morecambe FC supporters are hopeful for football stability.

The League Two team has been owned by Bond Group director Jason Wittingham for six years, and he has been attempting to sell the team since 2022.

On June 3, 2024, the club appointed Derek Adams as First Team Manager a third time.

The 48-year-old Scottish man said he views the position as a challenge, adding, “I think that’s what I’ve done throughout my managerial career.”

The fact that they have a manager in place prior to the season beginning provides stability.

“We’ve got four players in place for the start of next season so we have to get a squad together.”

Adams thinks the team will have good opportunities going ahead with a new owner.

“That’s what you would hope for,” he stated.

“There’s no way it could drop much farther. But, they will have a strong foundation to work from when someone pays the owner what they want.”

The club paid employees late and lost three points in the same season, which prompted fans, players, and the board to demand new ownership.

With 58 points in their 2023–24 campaign, the Shrimps came in 15th place in the standings.

A Go Fund Me page has been created by a group of supporters who are afraid the club may go into administration.

Shrimps Trust’s Matthew Newsham stated: “A club with more than a century of history on the on the verge of collapse, all we can hope is that we may find a reliable buyer in time to avoid having to enter administration or, worse yet, liquidation.”

The chairman of Morecambe, Rod Taylor, says he has faith in Jason Wittingham, the club’s owner, to keep the team funded until a suitable buyer is found.

“We do need a new owner, Jason wants out,” he remarked. He has openly said that it is not a secret. After a little stabilisation, we’ll get it back up.

We have to have faith that Jason, the Bond Group, will keep funding the club until a buyer is found, and I don’t see why that shouldn’t be the case.
