Following offers to join the Sydney Roosters and stay with the Newcastle Knights, rookie star David Armstrong is said to have chosen which team he will play for in the upcoming season.
Armstrong was brought into the Knights squad following the injury death of 2023 Dally M Medallist Kalyn Ponga. Since then, he has established himself as the team’s starting fullback and been a vital part of every victory this season.
Along with Fletcher Sharpe, Armstrong will be Ponga’s primary backup when he returns from injury. It is anticipated that Armstrong’s role may shift in the upcoming months as the team attempts to maintain him in the starting lineup.
He is still without a contract for the 2025 campaign, but according to reports from The Daily Telegraph and Wide World of Sports, he will sign a multi-year deal to stay with the Newcastle Knights.
The publications claim that he rejected offers from the Roosters and at least one other team, leading to the agreement, which will keep him there until the end of the 2026 NRL season.
This also occurs after Adrian Lam, the coach of the Leigh Leopards, has been attempting to sign him to the Super League from the beginning of the 2023 season.

The Sydney Roosters have missed out on signing a Knights player for the second time in the last few months.
Former QLD Maroons centre Dane Gagai re-signed a two-year contract to stay in Newcastle early last month, rejecting a possible trade to the Roosters.
After the season, Trent Robinson has been trying to bolster his outside back stock because Joseph Suaalii (who hasn’t been confirmed yet) and Joseph Manu are expected to go for rugby union.
