The manager of Blackpool has shared some personal details about his tenure as Sheffield Wednesday’s manager in advance of their Carabao Cup match on Tuesday.

Sheffield Wednesday is “a big club with a huge tradition,” according to Steve Bruce, who also stated he had no regrets about his choice to step down as Owls manager in the summer of 2019.

After spending a year at Sheffield United, the former Manchester United defender put an end to his playing career and started his managerial career in the Steel City. He later managed Birmingham City, Sunderland, and Wigan Athletic. After a bad run of results, Bruce was fired by Aston Villa in October 2018, but three months later, he was back in Sheffield as Wednesday’s manager.

Bruce got off to a good start at Hillsborough, leading his new team to an eleven-gama. Bruce only suffered three losses before the 2018–19 season ended, so there was e winning streak before losing his first game in charge of the Owls to old team Aston Villoptimism that in his first full season leading the team, he could elevate Wednesday to new heights.

But, by the time the next season began, Bruce would be leading his hometown team, Newcastle United, having made a very public bid for his services in the summer. Bruce, who is now in command of Blackpool, will take on Wednesday in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup. He complimented the Wednesday fan base and called managing the Owls “a privilege,” but he claimed he might decline the chance to take charge of the team he grew up loving.

He said, “I know everything about them,” to The Blackpool Gazette. For a brief while, I was granted the honour of overseeing them. Who knows what would have occurred if Newcastle hadn’t called? They have incredible support, which is the envy of most, and I had a great time. They have a long history and are a large club. I couldn’t refuse the invitation from my hometown club; it was like walking through glass doors. When I left, I knew that many people were disappointed, but most would have understood that I had to seize the chance.

Since I’m from there, I had to accept it in order to handle them. Most will declare that this, that, and that was my time.
