Graham Coughlan and Newport County have split, the club’s official website revealed.
A new manager is being sought by Newport County in front of the 2024–2025 season.

After placing eighteenth last term, they have made the decision to alter.

“I have total respect for Graham and found this decision particularly difficult to make considering all the hard work he has put in to help stabilise the club over the last 18 months,” the club’s chairman, Huw Jenkins, stated on their website.

“It goes without saying that I hope Graham has the best possible outcome for his upcoming managing career.

“But going forward, I have to lead the team and the club in a different way and stick to my convictions, which I think will eventually bring Newport County consistent success and hopefully transform the club’s perspective for many years to come.”

These are three contenders they ought to take into account to replace him:

Pete Wild

He severed his relationship with Barrow once the previous campaign concluded. On the last day, the Bluebirds were not included in the playoffs.

Manchester native Wild performed well in Cumbria despite a limited budget, and if Newport County could lure him back to the dugout at Rodney Parade as soon as possible, he would be a respectable addition. He has also had stints at FC Halifax Town and Oldham Athletic in the past.

Neill Collins

After Michael Duff left Oakwell last summer, Barnsley looked to the forty-year-old. Even though the Tykes were sitting in the League One play-offs, they fired him with one game remaining in the season in April.

The Exiles’ opening may present the Scotsman with an opportunity to re-enter the game as he considers his next move. He began his managing career in America with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL Championship after spending his playing career as a defender for teams including Sunderland, Leeds United, and Sheffield United.

Luke Garrard

The 38-year-old is free and Newport County could want to take a chance on him. Prior to his departure from the National League team in April, he worked for Boreham Wood for nine years.

For the first time ever, he led his old team to the FA Cup fifth round in 2022, when they faced Everton at Goodison Park. Throughout his tenure, The Wood also made it to the play-offs twice.
