With pleasure, Newport County announces Ciaran Brennan’s signing, pending EFL approval and international clearance.

The former central defender for Sheffield Wednesday has signed a two-year contract with the Exiles, extending his stay in NP19 to June 2026.

Brennan brings a plethora of experience to South Wales after making appearances on loan for Notts County and Swindon Town in League Two. Prior to spending the 2022–2023 season on loan at Hartlepool United in the National League, the 24-year-old made 21 appearances for the Robins.

Joining The Owls academy in 2013, Brennan has made eleven first-team appearances in blue and white since signing his first professional contract with the club in May 2018. Later, at the end of the 2019 season, he extended his contract for an additional year, and again in 2020, on September 15, 2020, he would make his debut with the team at Hillsborough, starting their match against Rochdale in the EFL Cup second round.

Brennan has also represented the Republic of Ireland at the Under-18 and Under-19 levels, giving him international credentials.

Brennan stated, “I’m buzzing to get the deal over the line,” after signing the agreement. It’s been a while coming, but I’m happy to finally finish it.

“I know what the league offers, for the most part. I want to prove to the supporters that I can compete with the greatest players here because I know I’m more than comfortable at this level.

“I just want to get started right now.”

Ciaran, welcome to the Exiles!
