Former Newport County favourite Steve Lowndes will be the guest of honour for the visit of Morecambe to Rodney Parade on Tuesday night (March 12, 7.45pm).
Lowndes will speak as the guest speaker in the Bisley Lounge during the club’s second hospitality event for the pivotal League Two match under the lights.
The talented midfielder was a key component of the team’s most prosperous run in history. After being spotted at Monmouth Town, Lowndes began his professional career at the club in 1977. He went on to help Newport win the Welsh Cup, advance to the Third Division, and make it all the way to the quarterfinals of the 1981 European Cup Winners Cup.
The former Welsh international (10 caps) played for the team for more than 200 games before being dealt to Millwall in 1983 for £55,000. After leaving his hometown club in 1992, he played for Barnsley and Hereford before coming back in 1996 to make another 150 appearances.
