Norwich City are gearing up for another year in the Championship after losing in the play-off semi final last time out.
The Canaries had a strong season, but manager David Wagner was fired after the German failed to clinch promotion at Carrow Road.
Johannes Hoff Thorup is Norwich’s new manager, and the Danish manager is eager to make his stamp on the club this summer.
Idah, 23, had a loan spell at Celtic last season.
In 19 appearances in Scotland, the Irish international scored nine goals and assisted twice. Before going on loan, he made 28 Championship appearances for Norwich City, scoring seven goals.
Idah was supposed to be very interested in returning to Celtic this summer, and while he is thought to be a top target for Brendan Rodgers’ side, Norwich City want to take a look at him during pre-season before making any decisions.
A move to Celtic will be attractive for Idah. It is a chance to play top level football, compete for league titles and play in Europe.
However, with four years left on his current deal at Carrow Road, Norwich City hold a lot of the cards in deciding his future.
The Canaries will be trying to finish in the top six again this season, and Idah has proven to be a steady supplier of goals, so if Thorup can get him going, he might be the difference between a play-off spot and lifting the title at Wembley.
If the reports claiming Idah is keen on leaving are true, then Norwich City may need to accept defeat in this one.
They should be able to raise a substantial transfer fee for the 23-year-old, which may be used to strengthen other sections of their team.
Keeping a player at a club who does not want to be there is rarely a good thing for the club, the player, or the rest of the squad, but time will tell how this one plays out.
There is still plenty of time left in the transfer window, giving Norwich City plenty of time to evaluate their choices and Idah before making a decision that will benefit the club’s chances of success.
