The Football Association has charged Nottingham Forest for its fans’ lack of self-control during the March loss to Liverpool.

Referee Paul Tierney stopped play for a head injury to Ibrahima Konate, but instead of awarding a dropped ball to Forest, who was in possession in an attacking area, he mistakenly gave it to Liverpool in the Reds’ penalty area. Forest was furious when Jurgen Klopp’s team scored a stoppage-time winner at the City Ground.

At the time, Forest and first-team coach Steven Reid faced charges for their actions towards Tierney; however, they have since been punished once more, this time for failing to maintain crowd control.

Supporters surrounded the away dugout and got involved in spats with Liverpool’s coaching staff.

An FA statement read: “Nottingham Forest FC has been charged with misconduct in relation to crowd control at the Premier League match against Liverpool FC on Saturday 2 March.

“It is alleged that Nottingham Forest FC failed to take reasonable steps to ensure that its fans and/or spectators (and anyone posing as fans or followers) behaved in a civil manner, did not act in an inappropriate, threatening, or provocative manner, and/or did not engage in any type of pitch incursion.

“Nottingham Forest FC is allowed to reply until Friday, June 7th.”
