Oldham Athletic have staged a number of community events since the end of the football season, including junior tournaments, men’s walking football and the club’s cricket ‘world cup’,  before the maintenance work began this week.

In what is a six-week programme to replenish the grass ready for the 2024/25 football season, Oldham RLFC, who now ground share with Latics, have played their last home game for several weeks.

Roughyeds now have a run of away games in League One, in line with other clubs who ground share, before returning to home soil on June 30 when they entertain Hunslet.

It is a year since an extensive programme to install a brand new pitch got under way.

In March 2023, it was announced that £1 million was being invested by Oldham Council to provide a new pitch at the home of Oldham Athletic, with the view to allow the stadium to host more events.

Last August, Boundary Park hosted rugby again for the first time since 2009.

With a new surface made up of 97% natural grass and 3% plastic, the renovations are the most extensive to have been done on the pitch in almost 25 years.
